domainjunkies - a domainers blog

confessions of a domain name junkie

I wish I could program.

I have all these ideas for cool new/useful websites (hence my plethora of domainnames), but I don’t have programming skills to make it happen. Used to be that all you needed was some HTML and you could make a pretty cool website.

I tried learning php, but that didn’t work out. I’m just not wired for programming I think.

I even wrote a script (with a little debugging help from friends) that calculated weight watchers points. Unfortunately, weightwatchers doesn’t like people using their formula without their permission, so I couldn’t really publish it. Even while writing the script I was thinking: “this is way too much work and too much to learn for what I want to do. I just need it to work”.

Just like some people shouldn’t design their own website, some people should outsource their programming. I’m just one of those people. I like to see things visually and programming just doesn’t allow for that.

It simply takes a certain kind of person to sit down and type out code for hours (just like it takes a certain type person to even work on the web or design a website or be a fireman), I’m just not the programming kind of person. Nothing against programmers as people, mind you. Some of my best friends are programmers ;)

The problem is that it’s much less expensive to outsource the look and feel of a website than it is to outsource the perl, php, rubyonrails or [insert your favorite flavor here] programming.

What’s a guy with ideas to to?
